CN4148413 · Local growers report a yield ceiling in oats, unlike barley, suggesting a challenge in achieving higher grain yield. This may stem from higher biomass and a source-sink imbalance, making oats more vulnerable to environmental stress. Last season’s trials support this, showing excessive nitrogen reduced harvest index and grain weight, ultimately lowering yields—likely due to increased biomass and greater susceptibility to terminal drought (data available on request). Further reinforcing this, trials showed significantly higher yields when oats were planted in late March instead of late April, suggesting early seeding helps mitigate drought effects. Overseas research also links vegetative indices (multispectral analysis) at panicle emergence and early grain fill to final yield, suggesting these indices could serve as a tool for identifying unrealized yield potential. By comparing up to 3 milling oats varieties that with difference in phenology and crop architecture this research will seek to address the following issues: * Maximise oat yield, quality and profit through efficient use of nitrogen. * Provide insights into the relationship between time of sowing, biomass growth, nitrogen application, and grain yield in oats. * Identify whether variety specific characteristics offer opportunities to overcome the yield ceiling. * Identify the risk (lack of photoperiod hold) or benefits (grain yield) with early seeding of varieties. * Use multispectral technology to improve decision-making tools for growers. * Contribute to sustainable oat production by addressing yield limitations associated with excessive vegetative growth, terminal drought, and over-fertilization. Trials are to be applied to farmer-sown strips of up to 3 milling oats varieties that with difference in phenology and crop architecture (4 randomized replicates within each block). A range of environments to capture N response & rainfall/terminal drought influence: 1. Low Rainfall (Lake Grace): 4N rates, 2 TOS, 3 varieties (96 plots) 2. Medium Rainfall (Narrogin): 4N rates, 2 TOS, 3 varieties (96 plots) 3. High Rainfall (Williams): 5N rates, 1 TOS, 3 varieties (60 plots)

CN4148382 · A review of the final report from FAR2403-001SAX NGN- Winter wheat investigation on the Southcoast of WA has presented a number of questions with local growers in the Albany Port Zone to investigate earlier sowing times for commercially available winter wheat varieties. Results from the previous investment highlighted some interesting trends regarding the contribution of grain from secondary tillers in both winter wheat varieties and spring barley varieties. There is a need to continue this investigation over a 2-year period to determine if this is a common occurrence. With the trend continuing towards earlier sowing dates to either satisfy large hectare programs or to take advantage of late summer rainfall utilising some winter wheat varieties as an addition to more common spring wheat varieties could allow growers to take advantage of the conditions when they can. There is also a need to provide comparisons between different cereal crops including barley and oats to provide rotational diversity in the area.

CN4148380 · Stubble management is a significant issue in Western Australia particularly in the high rainfall zone, where it is not uncommon for cereal yields to reach over 7 t/ha with the resulting stubble loads being up to 10 t/ha. This is a high amount of stubble residue left post harvest and is an increasing concern for local growers due to poor establishment of following crops, nitrogen (N) tie-up, disease carryover issues and seeding operation inefficiencies such as, blockages, hair pinning, poor soil throw and bulldozing. As a result, plant establishment has become increasingly difficult, particularly Canola establishment. Traditionally, high stubble loads in the region have been removed by burning, however, there has been a move away from burning due to a combination of social license issues, as well as farming system concerns. Burning increases the risk of erosion and nutrient loss and decreases soil moisture. Growers are also concerned with Nitrogen (N) tie-up from retained crop stubble. Although cereal stubbles contribute very little N to the following crop, stubbles are a source of carbon and N is required from the soil to breakdown this high carbon material. Previous GRDC research has been conducted to understand the additional N requirements needed to overcome early N immobilisation by stubble, this research suggests that an additional 5-6 kg N/t of cereal residue can help overcome the issues of stubble N immobilisation. (https://grdc.com.au/resources-and-publications/grdc-update-papers/tab-content/grdc-update-papers/2018/02/the-effect-of-stubble-on-nitrogen-tie-up-and-supply). Investigation into whether the addition of nutrients, in addition to an enzyme ‘digester’ to stubble in conjunction with mechanical stubble treatments, during the summer fallow period, can increase the rate of stubble breakdown to allow for improved winter crop establishment (especially canola) and reduction in early season nitrogen tie-up. Reduced carryover of stubble-borne diseases could also be explored via observations

What these values mean

Each amount is the reported full contract value, including GST where applicable, in nominal Australian dollars. It covers the reported contract period. It is not annual expenditure, cash paid, all government spending or spending in a supplier’s local area. Unexercised future options are not necessarily included.

This snapshot includes every notice in 82 consecutive weekly exports, covering 2 March 2025 to 26 September 2026, retrieved 1 October 2026 (UTC date). AusTender lists only about eighteen months of exports, so weeks before 23 March 2025 are kept from our earlier downloads. Each contract contributes its latest observed version once. Earlier versions remain available in its history; values of successive amendments are never added together. Date filters use that latest observation’s publication date, including amendments, not the contract start date.

Weekly files describe information at extraction. Later corrections, cancelled notices, or contracts with no publication in this archive may be absent. This is not the entire historical AusTender register. Some source timestamps fall just outside their file’s labelled week; their reported dates are retained. Three malformed observations have shifted columns; affected supplier/category fields are marked unavailable. Source dates in 1900 or end dates in the next century are flagged, not interpreted as ordinary durations.

Supplier grouping uses reported ABNs with a valid checksum; it is not independent verification against the business register. Missing or invalid ABNs remain separate by contract. Equal names do not establish equal legal entities. A contract award is not evidence of wrongdoing.
